Announcing his predecessor's death on Friday afternoon, Cardinal Vincent Nichols said: "I am writing to let you know the sad news that Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor died peacefully this afternoon, surrounded by his family and friends.
Please pray for the repose of his soul. Pray, too, for his family, and those many friends and colleagues …who mourn his loss.” Born in 1932, the Cardinal served in Holy Orders for over 6 decades and as the tenth Archbishop of Westminster from 2000 to 2009. He was created Cardinal by Pope John Paul II in 2001. |
On 28 July 2017, Cardinal Vincent issued this statement following the death of Charlie Gard:
"I am deeply saddened by the news that little Charlie Gard has now died. I offer my sincere and profound condolences to his parents who have treasured him with such a strong and undiminished love. "I assure them of my prayers and those of the Catholic community. We pray that our heavenly Father, who most certainly welcomes the soul of their beloved son into heaven, will comfort and strengthen them and all their family and friends. "I also offer my support and sympathies to the staff of Great Ormond Street Hospital who have cared for Charlie during all these long months of his short life. "Having visited the hospital recently, I know the unstinting and outstanding professionalism and resources offered to every young patient and family in this remarkable Hospital. They too will bear keenly the sorrow of the death of Charlie Gard. "May he rest in peace." |

Carpool Karaoke style YouTube Clips Go Viral
On YouTube this week two priests and a bishop, en route to a Youth Summit in America, filmed a Carpool Karaoke style video reminiscent of those seen featuring various celebrities chatting and singing with Late Late Show James Corden.
As an extra bit of 'religious' fun see alongside it some outtakes of a version from a group of nuns who perform selected clips from the hit film Sister Act.

Artist - Catherine Moran tells us about her painting of The Assumption....
"I met Father Leo Heakin in early July and was immediately impressed and inspired by his vision, values and hopes for a painting of The Assumption of Mary which would celebrate the founding principles of St. Mary’s. By the end of our conversation, I knew that I would be committing to this work and I knew more or less what it was going to look like and what I was going to try to represent."

"..... I think I’ll probably have it finished by Christmas. I keep forgetting to take photos and it changes so much every time. I’ve got to a point where I’m feeling a bit happier with my progress, but it’s not been plain sailing! I spotted a pencil written note left for me today which made me grin from ear to ear, it said: ‘We all absolutely love it’. Now I’m thinking: “Don’t mess this up! and thank you all so much for this amazing opportunity”."
To the left are some of the early drawings Catherine made of Mary as she was planning her work. For the full story so far and to learn a bit more about Catherine and some of her other work then please open the file below. Catherine is always happy to discuss her work with people and listen to your thoughts on how the project is progressing. |

Leo. If you would be interested in joining the pilgrimage in future then do speak to Fr. Leo or find out more by visiting the website.
