Fr David Yates - Parish Priest
Fr David was ordained on the 7th July 1990. He spent four years as Assistant Priest at St Mary’s Denton, Manchester and then a further eighteen months at St Catherine’s, Didsbury and also Chaplain to Xaverian College. In January 1996 he became Parish Priest at Sacred Heart, Gorton.
In September 1998 Fr David joined the Royal Navy as a Catholic Chaplain. He served in a variety of roles, both ashore and at sea, including the 2nd Gulf War in 2003 with HMS LIVERPOOL, two years with HMS ILLUSTRIOUS (2007-2009) and a global deployment with HMS DARING in 2013. He also served at Britannia Royal Naval College and HMS RALEIGH.
In 2019 Fr David returned to the diocese, becoming Parish Priest of English Martyrs, Whalley. In 2022 he took on further responsibility for St Mary’s Langho and St Mary’s Osbaldeston. He is looking forward to merging the three parishes and getting to know everyone he has not yet met.
Fr David has a static caravan near the Lake District where he likes to spend his ‘down-time.’ He is a very keen fan of all things Science-Fiction and enjoys good books and good films.
